Spreading pornography: China accuses Google


"We have found that the English version of google.com has spread lots of pornographic, lewd and vulgar content, which is in serious violation of Chinese laws and regulations," said foreign ministry spokesman Qin Gang at a news briefing. He said authorities summoned Google representatives and told them to "remove the material immediately."

Google has rude awakening in China


Now Google is having a rude awakening. China’s authoritarian government, caught up in a trial of strength with internet users over censorship, has opened a witch hunt on Google China.

On Thursday, it accused the search engine of “severely endangering China’s youth” by linking to pornographic content – a search for the word “son” in Chinese would curiously turn up some results referring to incestuous sexual relationships.

Facebook value plummets $5billion


Facebook has sold 1.96 per cent of itself to a Russian technology investment firm for $200m. That puts Facebook's ostensible value at $10bn, a $5bn drop from the price tag Microsoft put on the company in October 2007..
