1994 Northridge/ Los Angeles Earthquake

An Earthquake of a magnitude 4.0 lasting 20 seconds can be horrifying.

They say the 2004' Indian Ocean Earthquake with a magnitude 9.2 tilted the earth.(see below)


This 1964 Alaska Earthquake lasted 5 MINUTES and had a magnitude of 9.2 and caved in entire streets.(see below)

Los Angeles had a minor 3.0 earthquake tuesday, so lets go back and look at the 1994 Northridge Earthquake.

It was just after 4am, and I just got home and I was going to sleep. I lived in the West Hollywood area. Then it hit. Nothing in this world like it. It was horrible.....





The Northridge earthquake occurred on January 17, 1994 at 4:31 AM Pacific Standard Time in Reseda, a neighborhood in the city of Los Angeles, California. The earthquake had a "strong" moment magnitude of 6.7, but the ground acceleration was the highest ever instrumentally recorded in an urban area in North America.

Seventy-two people died as a result of the earthquake with more than 12,000 injured. In addition, the earthquake caused an estimated 12.5 billion in damage, making it one of the costliest natural disasters in U.S. history.
